Fresh Air and Free WiFi

Are you one of those people in our area where your WiFi at home is on-again, off-again or do you just need somewhere else to study? E-learning, at-home days, online college classes, and homeschooling are all different ways students will be learning this year. Consider coming to the library and enjoying our outside spaces where the WiFi is free and fast. To access the library’s WiFi, choose “Library Guest”, go to, and review the terms of use before continuing. You are welcome to use the outside spaces as long as you need too, even if the Library is not open. Our spaces have all been updated with new furniture and soon there will be outside spaces all around the building. Social distancing guidelines must be followed in all of our outdoor and indoor spaces.

On My Way

New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library is excited to announce the launch of a new early literacy program called “On My Way-Growing while I read, write, sing, talk, and play.”  This program is for children who are not yet in school. “On My Way” runs from September through May.

While we know that reading is important, it is not the only experience that helps children get ready to read.  Writing, singing, talking, and playing are also important parts of preparing for success.

We also know that parents and caregivers are a child’s first and best teacher. So we’ve gathered activities and all the supplies you need to participate with your child in this program.  Each month’s activities coincide with the themes of our Facebook virtual storytime that airs every Thursday at 10 am. Families will have the option to participate in the program, fully digitally, using the Beanstack app. We hope you will use this as a tool for fun and learning throughout the month. “On My Way” kicks off on September 1st, when families can drive through the circle driveway to pick up their activity bag from 10:00-11:00 am. If you have questions, feel free to call Miss Sarah at 574-654-3046 or email

Library Card Sign-up Month

Every September, we celebrate Library Card Sign-up month. It’s really just an excuse for us to invite members of the community to take advantage of all the library has to offer. We think this year is a particularly great time to join, or re-join, the library.

You may not have noticed in the midst of all the Covid news, but in March, we became an overdue fine free library.  That means that we will never charge a daily fine for overdue materials. Not only that, but we deleted all past overdue fines! Now that is exciting news!

Not only that, we’ve made it easier than ever to sign up for a Library card.  Just fill out this quick and easy online form and we will send you a library card in the mail. Then you can come to the library and check out everything we have to offer. Or, in this world of Covid, take advantage of our contact free options, including curbside pickup and ebooks.

Programs to Go

In September, we are going to start several Programs to Go.  Program to Go means basically this:  we select a project and place all the items you will need to do that project in a bag.  Bags will be available for pick-up on the dates noted in the description and will be available while supplies last.  You can pick them up by coming into the library or by using curbside pickup.  Program to Go will be for a variety of ages including children, teens, and adults.  Some of the programs will also use online resources we have like Creativebug and Beanstack.  We are SO EXCITED that we can be offering some kind of programming even though we cannot get groups together in-person. To see what we are offering or for more information visit our website and click on the Event Calendar.

Curbside & Bundles To Go Begin Monday August 3

Our circle driveway is finally done! We are so happy to be able to transition from porch pick up to curbside pick up. This means that you no longer have to walk up the porch ramp to get your holds. Just pull into the circle, call or text us, and we will bring your items to your car.

If you don’t know what you want, you can ask for one of our Bundles to Go. Answer 4 simple questions, using this form, and we will bring you a bundle of 3-5 books and DVDs we think you will like.

Study Rooms and Creative Space Now Open

We are happy to announce that you can now reserve a Study Room or the Creative Space by using our online reservation system or by giving us a call.

Study Rooms may be used by an individual or a family for up to four hours. Adults may check out a laptop to use in these rooms, as well. These rooms provide access to high speed wireless internet and a quiet place to work or study.

The Creative Space, located in what was formerly known as the Blue Room houses a 3D printer, three Cricut machines, a die cutter, stamps with ink pads, an iMac with Adobe Creative Cloud, a Wacom drawing tablet, and more, the creative possibilities are endless!  You will need to earn the Creative Space Basics badge to use the Creative Space and complete any necessary training to use certain equipment, like the 3D printer. If you haven’t already, create a Beanstack account to get started.

Remember, you must wear a face covering any time you visit the library.
