Site Work Slated to Begin May 1
April 20, 2020
We are so excited that the work on outside of the Library is slated to begin on May 1. Have a look through the slides above to see the plan. The front will have a nice circular drop off lane. Behind the building on the adult side, additional handicapped parking is added that is close to the new rear entrance. There will also be a patio with some outdoor furniture for reading and working. On the opposite side of the building, a new outdoor classroom that includes a stage and an art area, will be installed. Native plants and grasses will be used in all new landscaping.
Phase A Demo
January 20, 2020
Start Date Set
January 6, 2020
The youth side of the building is now closed. You can find a playspace in the conference room and children and teen books near adult non-fiction. If you can’t find something, we are happy to help!
Renovations begin Monday, January 6.
Any day now
December 13, 2019
Any day now, our renovation project will begin! Michiana Contracting, from Plymouth, was awarded the bid for the interior work and the roof. The facelift for the inside of the library includes carpet, paint, bathroom renovations, and a small expansion of our Creative Space. The work will happen in two phases. In the first phase, the side of the building with teen and children’s areas will be closed. In the second phase, the adult end of the building will be closed.
I expect the first phase to begin before the end of the year. You’ll notice a flurry of activity happening to make sure that you have access to the most used library services while we are under construction. The newest and most popular books from the teen and kids collections will be moved to the adult end, as well as new magazines. Creativity tools, like the iMac and the Cricut will be moved to the Local History Room. A number of computers from the youth side will be moved into the adult end.
Because we know that play is so important to learning, we are moving our children’s play space to the conference room. They will still be able to enjoy many of the fun and educational activities they are used to enjoying. The gaming systems for teens will be available when the meeting room is not in use. The Local History Room will be maintained as a quiet space to read or get work done on a laptop which you can check out at the front desk.
We will also offer the usual slate of programs for all ages. Storytime, Euchre, creative classes for seniors, the Teens after school group will all continue uninterrupted.
Anytime renovations happen, there will be inevitable disruptions to the normal flow of things. We thank you in advance for your patience. We are always happy to help you find what you are looking for, so please ask. We will post updates to the project on our website, www.ncpl.lib.in.us/renovation, and our Facebook page. And, of course, I encourage you to stop by and see the excitement for yourself.
Exciting changes will begin shortly
October 1, 2019
Exciting changes will begin shortly here at the library. We will start interior renovations before the end of the year. We have worked hard to make design choices that respect the beautiful prairie style of the building, while using materials that work in todays’ busy world. We hope you love the results.
We will begin inside with new carpet, paint, new bathrooms and some new shelving and furniture. In the spring we will move outside and do much needed repairs to the roof and a drop off driveway at the front of the building. An additional entrance at the rear of the building, will allow a very short walk between parking and the door. Some drainage problems beyond the parking lot will be fixed and much of the grass in that area will be replaced with native plants that create a habitat for birds, butterflies, and bees.
Anytime renovations happen, there will be inevitable disruptions to the normal flow of things. As of this writing, we don’t know exactly when things will begin and how they will work. But we will do our best to keep you updated on what is happening our website and Facebook page. And, of course, you can ask anytime you are in.
