Spam phone calls are not new, but with mobile phones, it seems like the amount of spam we deal with in a day has exploded. The Federal Communications Commission recommends you do not answer phone calls from unknown callers, and if you do answer a call, hang up immediately. It is also important to block phone numbers used by scammers, so they do not continue to target you. (Learn how to block phone numbers on iPhone or Android.) Some cell phone carriers offer free apps to help you block and report fraudulent callers and in some cases spam text messages, such as the AT&T Call Protect, Verizon Call Filter, and T-Mobile Scam Shield. Plus, fraudulent phone calls are illegal. You can do your part to stop spam callers by reporting scammers to the Federal Trade Commission.
