It’s hard to believe that we are just a few weeks away from starting a new school year, but here we are. Some of you are pros at this and others are just starting out on the journey that is kindergarten. Either way, a new year is a great time to start new routines. Here are some ways to get this year off to a great start!
Did you know that kindergarteners and first graders should get at least 10 hours of sleep each night? Sleep is so important. Don’t wait until the night before school starts to get into a good sleep routine-start now!
Breakfast-it’s the most important meal of the day. Whether it’s at the table, at school, or in the car, making sure that your child has breakfast is a great way to make them successful each day.
Talk about school. Talking to each other is so important! Talk about the things that your child can expect and experience. Remind your child that it’s okay to feel anxious.
Help your child learn to be responsible. Maybe it’s putting their backpack in a certain place, putting their empty lunchbox on the counter, etc. These little tasks not only help your child learn to be responsible, it also helps take a few things off your “to do list.”
Make reading an ENJOYABLE part of each day. The best way to grow as a reader is to READ. Reading is academic, but it can also be enjoyable, joyful, and relaxing. Making it a family event will also encourage your child to read. Looking for something new to read? Visit the New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library for some great books!
