New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library and Historic New Carlisle are partnering for the month of September as we celebrate the life and work of Indiana native Gene Stratton-Porter. Events will take place at the Library unless otherwise noted.
The youth department at the library will be turned into a Limberlost Land. Stop by anytime to do chores in the playhouse, create a butterfly or moth, help tie a blanket for a local charity, and more.
The Limberlost is located in Geneva, IN. Stretching for 13,000 acres, the vast forest and swampland was legendary for its quicksand and unsavory characters. The swamp received its name from Limber Jim, who got lost while hunting in the swamp. When the news spread, the cry went out “Limber’s lost!” The Porters lived here until the swamp was drained in 1913.
