Autumn is the perfect time to take a walk in Northern Indiana! Celebrate fall with this great challenge. Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick up a tracking sheet at the Library or join the challenge through the Beanstack app this month. 
  2. Create your own walking goal. Set a reasonable goal for how much you want to walk in the month of October. (See some example goals below.)
  3. Start walking! Track the days you walk and the weeks you reach your goal.
  4. Turn in your sheet or use Beanstack to enter your name in a prize drawing for a Stanley Cup by the evening of November 3. We will determine winners on November 4, and three entered walkers will win Stanley Cups! 

At the Library, we want to help you reach your Walktober goal, so we have marked walking paths with distances around the inside perimeter of our building and outside on our property. Follow one path to complete a mile of walking or follow both paths to complete 2 miles.

Here are some example walking goals:

  • I want to take a walk three times a week.
  • I want to walk 2 miles every day.
  • I want to walk 6 miles each week.
  • I want to take 2 walks for 15 minutes every day.
  • I want to take a walk for 20 minutes every other day.
  • I want to walk at least 12,000 steps every day.
