When I was little, I would wait excitedly by the back door for Dad to get home from work.  The two of us would take the dog out in the back yard to run.  Dad would have me pick up fallen pinecones.  During the summer, the dog, Dad and I would hunt for the gophers that were eating the garden, which I occasionally had to weed. These were very special times for me to be able to spend moments alone with just my Dad – memories that I wouldn’t change for anything.  When I got older, Dad showed me how to check the oil and the fluid levels on my car.  Dad always worked hard at a job that was physically difficult to provide for us.  Our dads teach us practical skills, the value of hard work and the importance of taking care of the family.  It’s been several years since Dad passed away.  I miss him everyday and wish that I could hug him and tell him how much I love him.  Take the time to thank your father for the ways he has impacted your life and to celebrate this Father’s Day to honor him.
