Explore New Carlisle’s National Register District featuring a wonderful collection of late 19th and early 20th century homes and buildings including Italianate, Queen Anne, Prairie, and other styles that were popular at the time. The historic district comprises six blocks including the downtown commercial block and five residential blocks.
Each fall, Dana Groves, director of Historic New Carlisle, Inc. along with the New Carlisle Public Library offers a free walking tour of the historic district to the public. Dana talks about the history of the town and its early development. She leads the attendees on a walk of the tree-lined streets to discuss the homes, their age, style, and, a little bit about the builders and/or owners of the property.
Historic New Carlisle, Inc. is a not-for-profit historical society that was founded in 1989. The organization maintains a local history museum in downtown New Carlisle. Their mission is to connect the community to New Carlisle’s past through education, preservation, and engagement, and assists in efforts to preserve and restore our rich architectural history.
