“Books unite us. Books encourage boundless exploration and allow readers to spread their wings. Stories give flight to new ideas and perspectives. Reading—especially books that set us free—expands our worldview. Censorship, on the other hand, locks away our freedom and divides us from humanity in our own cages.” American Library Association https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks
Banned Book Week is the annual celebration of the freedom to read. Reading a potentially banned book offers an opportunity to learn and share new ideas. It offers an opportunity to learn about situations that you are not familiar with through the words of the author. This week look for books that challenge you to see the world from a different viewpoint. Talk to others about what you have learned thus creating a community where the sharing of ideas is important and encouraged.
