Gathering with family and friends and creating something beautiful with your own hands to give as a gift or to keep and make your own home more festive is a really great feeling. Nothing puts you into the holiday spirit quicker than pouring your heart into fashioning a homemade craft while listening to festive holiday music.
For years, people have been making homemade decorations to celebrate the changing seasons. Early holiday trees were decorated with fruit, nuts, popcorn, cranberries, homemade paper streamers, candles, and metal foil. We make handcrafted wreaths to put on our doors and above our mantels. Who doesn’t love gathering the little ones together to create jolly gingerbread houses adorned with various sweets, most of which don’t actually make it onto the houses but instead end up in happy mouths? All of these wonderful traditions make the holiday season a truly special time that gives us a warm and cozy feeling.
Spend the afternoon with us, one or both of these days, as we make decorative Gingerbread Houses on Saturday, December 7 (Registration 1:30, Registration 3:30). All the supplies will be provided but come dressed to get messy! This program is intended for families and there are 2 sessions available to attend. Then on Sunday, December 8, we will make quaint rustic pinecone wreaths and enjoy holiday music and snacks. This program is for 16 and older (Registration is required).
These wonderful programs are sponsored by the New Carlisle Olive Township Friends of the Library.
