Get ready to serve up some fun this summer! One exciting new program that awaits our adult patrons this June is our Pickleball Camp!

Pickleball, invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, by three dads – Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum – started as a backyard game for their children. They combined elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, used makeshift equipment, including ping-pong paddles and a plastic ball, to create a family-friendly sport.   In 1984, the United States Amateur Pickleball Association (now USA Pickleball) was formed to manage the growing sport. By 2023, USA Pickleball membership numbers reached the 70,000 mark.  The year 2024 ended with 15,910 pickleball courts nationwide. It seems that the Pickleball craze is here to stay.

Pickleball offers significant physical and mental health benefits – improved cardiovascular health, better balance, increased agility, and enhanced cognitive function. As a low-impact, social sport with a smaller court size than tennis, Pickleball is accessible to all ages and skill levels, promoting consistent exercise while reducing strain on joints.

June 9, 10 & 12 at 10:00 am, the New Carlisle Public Library is partnering with the New Carlisle Parks Department to bring an Adult Pickleball Camp to our town’s new Pickleball courts at Bourissa Hills Park.  Learn America’s fastest-growing sport – Pickleball.  This camp is designed for beginners, and will cover the rules, scoring, serves, and court positioning of Pickleball.  So sign up and master the basics, meet new friends, and build confidence in a supportive environment. Paddles are provided.  Registration is required.   Ages 18+.
