I think back to my childhood and remember going to a puppet show on a class field trip and how special that was – all the different kids there, the darkened theater, the lights and music, the exciting story told by colorful little puppets. There was this magical feeling that I had of being transported into a fantasy world. I knew that I had just experienced something wonderful.
Puppetry is a very old form of theater. Puppets have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs that date back as far as 2,000 BC. The use of puppetry has been recorded in 5th century BC in ancient Greece. It is suggested that puppets were first used in ancient rituals and were not seen as entertainment. Over time, puppetry has evolved into a form of entertainment that often teaches us. Puppetry can take many forms, but they all share the process of animating inanimate objects to tell a story.
